What is RTP? Return to player explained
RTP (return to player) is the share of all money wagered on a game that it pays back to players over the very long run. A slot with 96% RTP returns, on average, €96 for every €100 staked. The other €4 is the house edge.
What RTP does not tell you
RTP is calculated over millions of spins. In a single session, anything can happen: you can lose your whole budget on a 98% game or hit a big win on a 94% one. RTP describes the long run, not your next hour.
Why the same slot can have different RTPs
Many providers release each game in several versions, for example 96.5%, 95.5% and 94.5%. The casino chooses which one to run. The game looks identical, but the lower version costs you more over time.
| RTP | Expected loss per €1,000 wagered |
|---|---|
| 96.5% | €35 |
| 94.5% | €55 |
That is why we list every known RTP version for each slot in our RTP database.
How to check the RTP at your casino
- Open the slot (demo mode works).
- Tap the i or ? button to open the rules.
- Scroll to the bottom: the theoretical RTP is printed there.
RTP and volatility
RTP tells you how much a game pays back. Volatility tells you how it pays: low volatility means frequent small wins, high volatility means rare big ones. Two games can share the same RTP and feel completely different.
